Network Management Policy
|
The following information describes the fundmental aspects of network management at Brainstorm Internet. The Internet is a dynamic and constantly changing environment requiring continual adaptation and adjustment in network management to maintain a safe and stable Internet experience for our customers. Although Brainstorm's promise to our customers does not change, the tools and processes we utilize to keep that promise must be flexible and responsive to the nature of a continually expanding Internet.
Brainstorm Internet monitors and manages network and Internet activity only to the extent required to ensure equal and fair distribution of connectivity services to all Brainstorm customers and to ensure the security and stability of our network infrastructure. Brainstorm Internet never monitors or censors specific content transmitted through our network, except to detect and quarantine known security threats that could negatively affect our customers' Internet experience.
Some of the typical network components that are regularly monitored for performance and stability include:
- Physical Device Monitoring - routers, switches, firewalls, server
- CPU utilization
- Memory utilization
- Error Logs
- Link utilization
- Minimum, Average and Maximum bandwidth loads
- Active traffic generated to key network elements (checking for packet loss and excessive delay)
- Host Alarms
- SNMP Traps (link up/down, control protocol state changes, configuration changes, etc.)
- Syslog
Brainstorm's entire network is mapped in detail enabling our system administrators to respond to equipment or security issues quickly and efficiently by rerouting network traffic in order to bypass a potential point of failure, or to isolate a security threat so that malicious activity is not able to reach the end user (our customer).
While publicly detailing exact procedures is not advisable, it is our intention to advise our customers in advance whenever a significant change is made to our network infrastructure that could affect their service, such as scheduled upgrades and maintenance procedures.
As always, we welcome your questions or comments at feedback@brainstorminternet.net at any time.
